Passenger Assistant Training (PATS)
What is PATS?
PATS is the nationally recognised qualification for passenger assistants, passenger carers and other equivalent job or volunteer roles. It enables passenger assistants to work more safely, more effectively and to better exercise their Duty of Care.
Our programme is delivered by experinced PATS trainers to help you get the most out of your course. The programme is made up of up to six modules that delegates select based on their personal development needs and the needs of their client groups. Most delegates take at least the first two modules of the course.
9.00 – 12.30 Module A: The role of a passenger assistant
The opening module explores the responsibilities of the passenger assistant and sets out the heath and safety, manual handling, personal safety and emergency planning issues that passenger assistants need to be aware of.
1.30 – 5pm Module B: Assisting passengers with disabilities
This module blends background knowledge of disability issues with practical skills in safely assisting people with a particular disability, including wheelchair users and people with a sensory impairment. It also covers the safe use of passenger lifts, wheelchair restraints and other safety equipment.
9.00 – 12.30 Module C: Young people/adults who require care or supervision
This two-part module provides information on your responsibilities, plus practical approaches to working with:
- children and young people with special needs
- adults who require care and supervision
The following additional modules are also available on an in-company training basis
Module D: Emergency aid/basic first aid
Module E: Manual handling
Module F: Safely managing challenging behaviour
Each module is followed by a multiple choice theory assessment and, in case of Module B, practical skills assessments.
